1000 Paper cranes for Japan ( Gifting at the Embassy)

For those of you who follow TCC's facebook. You'd have known that on the 8th August, Rescend and I made our way down to the Japanese Embassy.

In case you're not aware, 4 months ago, TheCosplayChronicles and OmakeStudios embarked on a donation drive for the Earthquake and Tsunami stricken Japan. More information here and here.

Part of the campaign was also to fold a 1000 paper origami (cranes) and have it eventually hung into a Japan flag.
After 4 long months, we're finally ready to gift the paper cranes and money.

Despite the awkwardness, we managed to braved it and brought you guys the video footages above!

220942_10150260644275299_664585298_9187555_650717_oI must say, the whole journey was really tough. For someone who has the concentration span of a 7 years old, being able to sit through all those mundane cranes folding was a BIG feat.

Of course, one thousand is a big number and I'd never have completed it alone. I'd have to thank the numerous friends who gathered and helped fold the cranes on so, so many occasion. You won't believe how much cranes folding was integrated into my life and the lives of my friends who hung out with me.

My biggest take away from this project is the comforting thought that I'm doing the right thing and that I have many awesome friends who are willing to brave it with me.  I'd list out the names but I'd bore you guys so I better not ^^;

And of course, the drive wouldn't have been possible if The Japanese Tsubasa Club hadn't been so supportive of it. The idea and proposal was submitted to them rather late but they still made way for it because they're awesome like that. So pop over to their site and beg them to bring SOY back!

1000 Cranes for Japan (ALMOST!)

My blood and sweat for the past 3 months. The epitome of love and care from many many people who help folded. I almost can’t believe I’ve finally reached this stage T____T

Now all that’s left is to buy a PVC pipe long enough and get them hung up! Then hand them over to the Japanese Embassy in Singapore along with the donations T____T

3 cheers for perseverence!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1 YEAYYYY!!!!

SOYC ends!

Phew! Can't believe SOYC has ended!

The event was awesome though I didn't have much chance to enjoy it n.n ;; The location is so much more spacious than before!!

Thank you to all that donated to Omake Studios and The Cosplay Chronicle's fundraising booth!

The 1000 cranes booth managed to raise around $330 and folded 240 cranes today! It was really heartwarming whenever somone donates!

I could see the unwillingness to part with the money but when they thought of the better good, they still decided to part with the cash. Humanity needs more of these people/feelings T.T !!!

A little sad I didn't managed to paparazzi or do my cosplayer challenge video due to the booth. For me, that would have to be the biggest sacrifice T.T
Would like to formally express my gratitude and thanks to the Japanese Tsubasa Club for organising such an awesome event. You guys just made Ngee Ann Poly SO much cooler :D And of course, without JTC's support the cranes project would not have been possible.

Also major thanks to my many friends who helped tended to the booth, Cvy and Envy while I was not around. And to those who helped clear up =)! Also thankies to Sakurazaki and her Tofu plushies that brought in $40 worth of donations!

The above photo is the cranes folded O.O! And it's biggggg ? now I'm really starting to regret not making the origami papers smaller ToT

On a side note, I have a crazy video eureka idea.

How much would you pay to see cosplayers do silly things? I would probably pay $5 bucks for a guy cosplayers to allow me to WAX HIS LEG!!! You catching the drift xD????

So yes, this S.O.Y.C, I might go around challenging cosplayers to do things out of their comfort zone and in return for their participation, I will sponsor their donation to the 1000 cranes project. No, those cosplayers won't get no money =P

Comment and share with me what is the craziest “Dare” you can think of and you might just see it happen !!

1000 Paper Cranes, 1 Wish for Japan (Fundraiser Event)

In the upcoming SOY'C I am honored to collaborate with the Japanese Tsubasa Club on a fundraising project to aid the victims of the Tohoku Pacific earth quake. Inspired by the 1000 Cranes (千羽鶴, Senbazuru) legend and this, we have set out to fold 1000 origami cranes and frame them into a Japan Flag.

On a personal note, I am seriously very excited about this donation drive.
Have you guys ever had a childhood dream come true before? For me, doing something good for the society has always been a big hidden dream. I know I know, you're going to start questioning why haven't I tried volunteering before and remind me of 'Flag Day' in school.

Fact is, like most modern adult, i find myself struggling in a pool of responsibilities, commitments and procrastinations. Yeah, I signed up for SGCares since last year but never found time to attend anything. I know they are not good excuses for poor time management but oh wells ... *floats away*

Anyway, back to childhood dreams. When I was young, I've always dreamt about how I can be an advocator of a good cause, be some Crime Fighter or maybe even do something cool like defending the weak against bullies. To put it short, I dreamt of a day, where the small and insignificant me will be able able to make a big difference. I guess you can see how my cosplay characters are usually selected xD

Come on guys, I'm sure you guys must have such dreams too!

I also grew up dreaming of being able to donate blood … but that’s one dream I’m currently happy I can’t accomplish ^_^;;;

Too many times in life we are placed in horrible situations without a choice and power to do anything. Which is why I treasure any chance for me to make a choice/ difference very much. When the typhoon swept across Philippine and the earth shook in Haiti, I was sad and I donated.

But this is the first time I've ever felt so affected enough to start a fundraiser. And I swear it has nothing to do with the possible delay in publishing of my favourite mangas =X

It was almost like there was a calling for me to start this fundraiser after I saw this amazing work. Everything just fell into pieces and I am happy to be able to, in a way, fulfill a childhood dream of helping people.

Alright, I’m sorry I rambled again. It’s 5am and I’m SUPER Sleepy. See you guys at SOY’C and remember to set aside time and money to visit the fundraiser booths at the event. Rescend and his team will also be having a fundraiser booth at SOY’C. More information when I get them !

Oh, and yes, I know my voiceover totally screwed up the video =(
